International Artist Exchange at Jamaica Dance Umbrella 2024

In 2024, Project Hummingbird Ltd facilitated the participation of Danae and Dionysios, an internationally touring Greek dance duo, in the Jamaica Dance Umbrella festival. Their appearance created an opportunity for Jamaican audiences and dance professionals to engage with international contemporary practice within a local festival setting, while also giving the visiting artists a chance to encounter Jamaica’s dance ecology firsthand.

The exchange included performance activities and workshop engagement, helping to create space for artistic dialogue, knowledge sharing, and cross-cultural learning. Rather than treating international participation as a standalone guest appearance, the project demonstrated the value of exchange that is rooted in encounter, reciprocity, and meaningful presence.

Impact: This project strengthened Jamaica’s visibility as a space for international artistic exchange, widened access to global contemporary dance perspectives for local artists and audiences, and affirmed Project Hummingbird Ltd’s role as a connector between Jamaican platforms and international practitioners.
